About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience in an outpatient clinic setting in Westchester County. You will work directly with clients dealing with substance misuse and co-occurring disorders. Interns follow the NYS OASAS Scope of Practice and engage in the 12 Core Functions of an Addiction Counselor. This is an unpaid, full-time position.
What you'll do#
- Perform substance use assessments and create comprehensive service plans with clients.
- Provide counseling and ongoing support services.
- Lead weekly groups focused on harm reduction and relapse prevention.
- Handle crisis intervention, advocacy, referrals, and case planning.
- Attend weekly supervision, team meetings, and case reviews.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a CASAC(T) student.
- Active enrollment in an education or training program that grants credit hours for this internship.
- Strong communication skills.
- Cultural sensitivity and competency when working with diverse populations.
Location & details#
- Locations: New Rochelle, NY or Mount Vernon, NY.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, with shifts available from 6:00am to 1:45pm or 9:00am to 5:00pm.
- Term: Rolling.
