About the role#
As an intern in the Systems Design group, you will support the Active Implantable Systems R&D organization. This team focuses on Cardiac Rhythm Management and Urology divisions. You will work alongside design teams to contribute to medical device technology and product development.
What you'll do#
- Assist systems engineers with product definitions and system architecture.
- Develop electromechanical systems, including sensors, algorithms, and embedded systems.
- Execute systems engineering tasks such as requirements definition, decomposition, and design documentation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional peers to assess product risk and benefit trade-offs.
- Integrate AI models into device functionality, development processes, or data analysis workflows.
- Interface with stakeholders regarding product design and functionality.
- Communicate project progress and technical findings across diverse teams.
- Learn new tools, platforms, and methodologies to support medical device innovation.
- Apply critical thinking to solve system-level problems.
What you'll need#
- Working towards a Bachelor or higher degree in Biomedical or Electrical Engineering, with a graduation date by May 2028.
- Prior internship experience with the Boston Scientific AIS R&D department.
- Experience with testing-related projects in an academic or professional setting.
- Strong written and verbal communication, decision-making, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to build effective cross-functional relationships.
- Leadership skills to manage trade-offs between risks, benefits, and performance.
- Knowledge of CRM systems and products, systems engineering principles, and requirement management tools is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Maple Grove, Minnesota.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Schedule: Full-time, 12 weeks.
- Start Date: May 17th or May 24th, 2027.
- Modality: On-site, five days per week.
- Transportation: Reliable transportation to and from the work site is required.
