About the role#
As a Medical Assistant Extern, you will work as an apprentice to complete your training as a Certified Medical Assistant. You will work under the close supervision of an experienced Medical Assistant, following established policies and guidelines. This role requires flexibility in scheduling to support patient care.
What you'll do#
- Room patients and prepare them for examinations.
- Record vitals including blood pressure, height, and weight in the EMR.
- Update EMR records with medications, allergies, and medical history.
- Prepare exam rooms and clean or restock them after appointments.
- Assist physicians and PAs with examinations and minor procedures.
- Perform clinical tests such as blood draws, EKGs, and swab tests.
- Manage physician orders by submitting them to the correct departments and tracking results.
- Obtain prior authorizations and assist with patient registration, insurance verification, and scheduling.
What you'll need#
- A High School Diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment in a Certified Medical Assistant program.
- One year of medical training is preferred.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to complete all competencies required by your educational institution.

- This is an on-site, full-time, paid externship with a rolling term.
