About the role#
This internship offers hands-on experience with quality assurance in a major steel production facility. You will work alongside engineers to support quality programs, participate in audits, and engage in metallurgical testing. This role involves active problem-solving and contributes to continuous improvement initiatives at the Sinton Flat Roll Division.
What you'll do#
- Support and maintain quality programs that align with steel industry standards.
- Assist in preparing and monitoring quality documents like PFMEAs, Control Plans, and audit records.
- Participate in internal, external, and customer audits, including documenting findings and corrective actions.
- Work with team members to perform root cause analysis and develop corrective action plans.
- Conduct sample testing on coils for width, gauge, hardness, adherence, coating thickness, and tensile properties.
- Support metallurgical testing, such as chemical coating analysis, zinc coating weights, and spectrometer testing.
- Assist with the review of non-conforming material and support disposition processes.
- Contribute to strip inspection activities, data collection, and reporting.
- Gain exposure to vendor agreements, outside processing order reviews, and performance monitoring.
- Participate in special projects to improve system efficiency.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Quality Engineering.
- A preferred GPA of 2.7 or higher.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Detail-oriented approach with strong organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
