About the role#
This internship provides professional experience in intellectual property management, technology transfer, and research commercialization. You will work within OceanWorks, the innovation and commercialization office at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. The role focuses on strengthening the organization and accessibility of the institution's intellectual property portfolio. You will gain hands-on experience with the lifecycle of research assets, from invention disclosure to commercialization.
What you'll do#
- Review and validate patent, licensing, inventor, and agreement documentation.
- Support the implementation of Salesforce as a portfolio management platform.
- Contribute to the development of reports, dashboards, and portfolio tracking tools.
- Conduct comprehensive reviews of intellectual property records and supporting documentation.
- Organize portfolio records to clarify relationships among intellectual property assets and commercialization activities.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a graduate student or upper-level undergraduate (junior or senior standing).
- Studies in intellectual property management, innovation management, business, law, legal studies, library and information science, or research administration.
- Familiarity with patents, licensing, intellectual property administration, or technology transfer processes.
- Experience with databases, CRM systems like Salesforce, legal documentation, or records management.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
