About the role#
Carboline is seeking a Chemist Intern for the Summer 2027 term. You will work alongside senior chemists to design, perform, and analyze experiments focused on high-performance coatings, linings, and fireproofing technologies. This role involves taking ownership of a project from start to finish and presenting your findings to peers and leadership.
What you'll do#
- Gain hands-on experience with lab instruments and testing procedures.
- Participate in all stages of applied research, including literature review, objective identification, and formulation development.
- Handle preparation, calibration, application, and performance evaluation of materials.
- Design and execute experiments under the guidance of a mentor.
- Perform statistical experimental design to identify trends and compare results against specifications.
- Analyze data to draw scientific conclusions.
- Present project findings to peers, senior executives, and business leaders.
- Maintain strict adherence to safety protocols and laboratory best practices.
- Ensure the proper handling of chemicals and raw materials while keeping the laboratory environment clean and compliant.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Availability to work 30 to 40 hours per week from May through August.
- Strong communication, organization, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
- A proactive attitude and a willingness to learn.
- Basic knowledge of PPE and laboratory equipment.
