About the role#
This position is for a Respiratory Therapy Student at ContinueCARE Hospital at Baptist Health Corbin. You will work under the supervision of the Lead Respiratory Therapist to assist with patient care and equipment management. This is a paid, full-time, on-site role with rolling start dates.
What you'll do#
- Set up and operate respiratory care equipment for patient diagnosis and treatment.
- Explain treatment procedures and equipment to patients and their caregivers.
- Document patient education and treatment responses in medical charts.
- Administer physician-prescribed treatments, including Handheld Nebulizer Therapy and nasal oxygen devices.
- Provide medicinal vapors, gases, humidity, and oxygen to patients.
- Perform chest physical therapy and trach care according to hospital policy.
- Maintain ventilation or compressions during cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- Conduct rounds on oxygen equipment at least twice per shift.
- Complete daily maintenance tasks like changing humidifiers and suction canisters.
- Spot-check respiratory therapy equipment and store oxygen tanks per OSHA guidelines.
- Help prepare patients for physical therapy, ambulation, and transport.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited respiratory care education program.
- Completion of the first year of a respiratory care program.
- Completion of a Pharmacology course.
- Ability to complete certification within 90 days and Registry within 180 days.
