About the role#
As a Machining Co-op student, you will build practical shop experience while contributing to manufacturing projects at Unifiller, a Coperion brand under Hillenbrand. You will work alongside experienced machinists and fabricators to learn how quality parts are made, from initial drawings to the finished product. This role supports the design and production of equipment used in food processing environments.
What you'll do#
- Select tools, machines, and materials by following drawings, bills of materials, and work instructions.
- Machine parts using lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other shop equipment to meet specific tolerances.
- Measure and inspect completed work using micrometers, verniers, and other precision instruments to confirm quality.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and engineering information to determine machining methods.
- Support welding and fabrication tasks with accuracy.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area while following shop safety procedures.
- Assist with general shop tasks to help the team meet production and quality goals.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in the CNC Machinist program at BCIT.
- Basic knowledge of machining tools, equipment, and shop practices.
- Ability to read and follow blueprints, technical drawings, and written instructions.
- Mechanical and mathematical aptitude for handling measurements and tolerances.
- Willingness to learn, ask questions, and apply feedback to your work.
- Ability to work independently with guidance and lift up to 50 pounds.

- Compensation: $25 - $27 per hour.
