About the role#
Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation offers a hands-on internship for students interested in local government operations, park management, and community engagement. This role provides practical experience through a combination of work assignments, professional development, and structured learning. You will work 40 hours per week under professional supervision to support the daily functions of the department.
What you'll do#
- Work in a local government office and outdoor park settings to build customer service skills and understand daily operations.
- Collaborate with local sports organizations to share information with the public and assist with park improvement projects.
- Support the administration of programs, including processing usage requests, updating park plans, and assisting with budget analysis.
- Learn how the department coordinates with community volunteers, seasonal staff, and service providers to manage recreation facilities and park logistics.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Sports and Recreation Management, Parks and Recreation Management, Business Management, Public Administration, Civil Construction, Agronomy, Urban Forestry, Education, or a related field.
- At least one year of experience managing administrative projects or public government-related activities, or current enrollment in a relevant degree program.
- A valid Florida Driver’s License.
- Ability to perform medium work, including lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, and comfort working outdoors in various environmental conditions like sun, pollen, and grass.
