About the role#
This externship program provides practical experience in a small animal practice to support your veterinary education. We work with you to meet the learning objectives defined by your college program or your own goals. You will be assigned a mentor doctor who provides instruction and evaluates your performance at the end of your rotation.
What you'll do#
Under the supervision of a mentor doctor, you will participate in the daily caseload of the practice. Your responsibilities include:
- Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans for medical cases.
- Assist in the management of medical cases and provide wellness care.
- Scrub in to surgery and refine your technical skills.
- Develop client communication skills.
- Produce appropriate medical records, including SOAPs.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Current professional liability insurance.
Location & details#
- Location: Columbia, New Jersey.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Rotations typically last two to eight weeks and include days, evenings, and weekends.
- Compensation: This is a paid position with a stipend of $250 per week.
