    About the role#

    This is a full-time, paid internship for the Summer 2027 term based in Riverside, Missouri. You will gain an insider view of process engineering within the heavy-haul railroad industry while working on projects that improve the manufacturing of locomotive and freight car braking systems. Interns work 40 hours per week from mid-May through mid-August and participate in team outings and special events.

    What you'll do#

    • Evaluate product improvement and cost optimization projects by conducting trials and writing reports.
    • Monitor, analyze, and optimize process quality, conditions, and variability.
    • Provide engineering support to increase manufacturing capacity and reduce costs.
    • Assist with machine shutdowns and start-ups.
    • Support capital project work from the initial scoping phase through installation.
    • Assist in the design and technical supervision of plant studies.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in an Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering Technology degree program.
    • Status as an incoming Junior or Senior student.
    • A minimum 3.0 GPA.
    • Understanding of 5S methodology and Lean manufacturing principles.
    • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
