About the role#
Koch Fertilizer is hiring an Instrumentation and Electrical Technician Intern for the summer of 2027. This is a 12-week, full-time program based in Dodge City, Kansas. You will join our maintenance team from late May to mid-August to gain practical experience in an industrial environment.
What you'll do#
- Shadow experienced technicians to support equipment reliability, maintenance, and daily plant operations.
- Assist with the installation, calibration, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of process instrumentation, analyzers, and control systems.
- Learn the industrial permitting process and the day-to-day responsibilities of the maintenance team.
- Interpret technical documents such as loop drawings, instrument documentation, and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Support commissioning, startup, testing, and reliability projects.
- Partner with engineers and technicians to maintain safe and reliable plant operations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a relevant degree, certificate, or workforce training program in Instrumentation, Industrial Maintenance, Automation & Robotics, HVAC, Electrician, or a similar field.
- Legal authorization to work permanently in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, lift up to 50 pounds, climb straight ladders, and perform work at heights exceeding 100 feet.
- Willingness to wear required PPE and uniforms, and potentially perform confined space entry.
- Experience troubleshooting mechanical equipment, engines, rotating equipment, or maintenance systems is preferred.
- Involvement in student organizations, engineering design teams, or hands-on mechanical projects is a plus.
