About the role#
As a Classroom Tutor, you will work with students who have intellectual disabilities. You will support a functional literacy class focused on language and financial skills. This role reports directly to the course instructor.
What you'll do#
- Help faculty implement small-group and individual instruction.
- Monitor student work as planned by the instructor.
- Tutor students by using questions to elicit answers and providing feedback on their strengths.
- Encourage independence in students.
- Collect data on student performance and progress using provided systems.
- Facilitate peer interactions.
- Assist with classroom organization, including filing and photocopying.
What you'll need#
- Relevant post-secondary credentials or completed coursework in subjects like English, Psychology, Sociology, or Communications.
- Ability to demonstrate subject-specific skills.
- Strong communication skills in written and spoken English.
- Ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Capacity to work in a team and follow direction from faculty.
- A patient, flexible, and positive approach to your work.
- Ability to show initiative.
