    About the role#

    University Enterprises, Inc. is hiring a Student Assistant to support the Tobacco Education & Prevention Program (TEPP). This role provides administrative and program support for tobacco and vaping education, prevention, and community outreach. You will gain hands-on experience with public health initiatives designed to reduce tobacco use and secondhand smoke exposure. This is a temporary, part-time internship beginning in Fall 2026 and continuing through June 30, 2027.

    What you'll do#

    • Create educational materials and monthly social media posts.
    • Attend TEPP team meetings and Greater Sacramento Smoke & Tobacco Free Coalition meetings.
    • Assist facilitators in direct cessation classes.
    • Create, distribute, and collect surveys, and assist with reporting.
    • Manage the assembly and distribution of tobacco and vaping quit kits.
    • Update the TEPP and Coalition webpages.
    • Review local and state tobacco-related media.
    • Assist with progress reports and other public health programs.
    • Represent the program at community events.

    What you'll need#

    • You must be an undergraduate student with upper division standing.
    • You must be enrolled in at least six semester units or nine quarter units.
    • Your declared major must be in Public Health, Public Policy, Communications, or a similar health field.
    • Excellent writing and communication skills are required.
    • You should be comfortable with public speaking.
    • You must be responsible, reliable, and have access to reliable transportation.
    • Prior knowledge of tobacco or vaping prevention is a plus.

    Location & details#

    • This position is based in Sacramento, CA, and operates on a hybrid schedule.
    • You will work from home and in the TEPP office, with approximately 10% of the role involving travel or field work.
    • Field duties may require working outdoors in various weather conditions and occasional bending, stooping, or kneeling.
    • You can expect to work 10 to 20 hours per week during the academic year, with the possibility of up to 40 hours during academic breaks.
    • Compensation is $18.00 to $20.00 per hour.
    • You must reside in California and perform all work within the state.
