About the role#
Lumos & Associates is hiring Materials Technician Interns for the 2027 summer program. You will work within our Construction Division to support materials testing and inspection. This role provides hands-on experience in both field and laboratory settings. You will work alongside technicians, inspectors, and engineers to evaluate construction materials against project specifications.
What you'll do#
- Visit construction sites to perform or observe material testing.
- Determine if test results meet requirements in project plans.
- Learn to read and interpret construction plans and geotechnical reports.
- Enter laboratory data using geotechnical software and Microsoft Excel.
- Study applicable standards and codes for materials testing.
- Assist with reports, calculations, and project documentation.
- Participate in project meetings and field activities.
- Gain exposure to various civil engineering disciplines.
- Learn the roles of field technicians, inspectors, and construction managers.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a college degree program for Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Availability for full-time work from mid-May through mid-August 2027.
- Willingness to work in both laboratory and field environments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs like Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to meet project deadlines, which may require overtime.
- A valid driver's license and a driving record with 3 or fewer demerit points.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to learn technical procedures quickly.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
