About the role#
As a Student Engineer at MacKay & Somps, you will gain hands-on experience supporting land development and public infrastructure projects across Northern California. You will work alongside professional engineers, designers, and surveyors to support project development from concept through construction. This internship is a full-time, on-site role based in Pleasanton, California, for the Summer 2027 term.
What you'll do#
- Prepare plans, exhibits, and figures for land development and public infrastructure projects.
- Assist with grading, utility, stormwater, and street design.
- Support hydrology and hydraulic calculations.
- Perform quantity take-offs, basic cost estimating, and data entry.
- Learn to use design software including AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office tools.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a B.S. in Civil Engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited university.
- Completed or ongoing coursework in site design, hydrology, transportation, or stormwater systems.
- Exposure to or an interest in learning AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
- A desire to learn and the ability to thrive in a team-oriented, client-driven environment.
- An Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification or the intent to pursue one is a plus.
