About the role#
The Custom Packaging Design Engineer Co-Op supports the Custom Design and Engineering Team at ORBIS Corporation. You will assist with creating packaging designs and prototypes based on specific customer needs. This role provides hands-on experience with materials and manufacturing processes, along with training in design software. You will learn to manage projects from the initial concept through to final production. This is a full-time, paid co-op position running from Summer 2026 through December 2026.
What you'll do#
- Lead and manage assigned projects.
- Create design samples to meet customer and sales team requirements on a timely basis.
- Develop cost-effective, manufacturable designs from concept to production.
- Fabricate prototypes to ensure design quality before manufacturing.
- Identify and suggest solutions for issues found during assembly and manufacturing.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Seek guidance from the design team or manager when necessary.
What you'll need#
- Junior or Senior status pursuing a degree in Plastic Engineering Technology, Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Knowledge of plastic processing, mechanical engineering, and packaging engineering.
- Ability to use design software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
- Skill in interpreting blueprints.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- Willingness to travel to manufacturing plants.
