About the role#
We are looking for a Data Engineer Intern to join our team for the Summer 2027 term. You will work alongside experienced engineers on projects that support our enterprise software and data strategy. This is a paid, full-time internship that offers hands-on experience with cloud technologies and data architecture.
What you'll do#
- Build and maintain data pipelines for analytics and application development.
- Contribute to data architecture using AWS and Databricks.
- Gather, clean, and transform data into usable formats.
- Collaborate with software developers, data analysts, and product teams.
- Participate in team meetings, code reviews, and brainstorming sessions.
- Automate manual processes to improve data workflows.
- Document your work and share knowledge using Confluence and the iVUE Support tool.
- Use generative AI tools to assist with productivity and problem-solving.
What you'll need#
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree or post-secondary program in data science or a computer science field.
- Familiarity with SQL and at least one programming language such as Python, Java, or Scala.
- An interest in cloud platforms like AWS and big data tools like Spark or Databricks.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to adapt to change and work both independently and within a team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- A commitment to NISC’s Statement of Shared Values.
- Preferred experience includes familiarity with Git, data warehousing concepts, and cloud services like AWS S3, Lambda, or EC2.
Location & details#
- This role is hybrid and requires working from an office at least 3 days per week.
- Office locations include Cedar Rapids, IA, Lake Saint Louis, MO, and Mandan, ND.
- The internship term runs from May to August 2027.
