About the role#
We are looking for a Data Engineer Intern to join our team for the Summer 2027 term. This role offers hands-on experience working on real-world projects that support our enterprise software and data strategy. You will work alongside experienced engineers to build scalable data solutions and gain exposure to enterprise-level data architecture.
What you'll do#
- Build and maintain data pipelines for analytics and application development.
- Gather, clean, and transform data from various sources into usable formats.
- Contribute to data architecture projects using AWS and Databricks.
- Collaborate with software developers, data analysts, and product teams to address data needs.
- Participate in team meetings, code reviews, and brainstorming sessions.
- Explore ways to automate manual processes and improve data workflows.
- Use generative AI tools to enhance productivity and problem-solving.
- Contribute to documentation and internal knowledge sharing.
- Ensure information is entered and tracked in Confluence and the iVUE Support tool.
What you'll need#
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Current enrollment in a bachelor's degree or post-secondary program in Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Familiarity with SQL and at least one programming language like Python, Java, or Scala.
- Interest in cloud platforms, specifically AWS, and big data tools such as Spark or Databricks.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to adapt to change and work well both independently and in a team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Commitment to NISC's Statement of Shared Values.
- Preferred experience includes exposure to data pipeline tools like Airflow or Hevo Data, cloud services like AWS S3, Lambda, or EC2, data lakehouse concepts, and version control systems like Git.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, full-time internship.
- The role is hybrid, requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in the office, with the option to work up to 5 days on-site.
- Office locations include Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Lake Saint Louis, Missouri; or Mandan, North Dakota.
- This position does not offer sponsorship.
