About the role#
This is a full-time summer internship for 2027 focused on Building Envelope Commissioning. You will work on commercial and institutional construction projects to help optimize building shells for energy efficiency and durability. This is a field position, and you will spend much of your time at project sites throughout New England.
What you'll do#
- Perform building envelope evaluations and diagnostic testing on existing structures.
- Conduct envelope tests during construction, including window air and water tests, infrared imaging, blower door tests, adhesion tests, and fog tests. We provide training on these procedures.
- Assist with building envelope forensics and construction inspections.
- Support energy audits focused on the building envelope.
- Write field reports to document your findings.
- Assist the team with commissioning plans, specifications, and project reviews.
- Participate in envelope commissioning meetings.
What you'll need#
- Current major in architecture or construction management.
- Completed coursework in construction, engineering, architecture, or a related field.
- Ability to read commercial construction drawings, specifications, and submittals.
- Proficiency with email, MS Word, and Excel.
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to draft clear reports and emails.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with experience working in multi-disciplinary teams.
- A valid driver’s license and a dependable automobile for travel to project sites.
- Prior experience with energy audits, blower door testing, or infrared imaging is helpful but not required.
Location & details#
- Location: Bloomfield, Connecticut.
- Work Modality: On-site with weekly travel by car to project sites in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and other New England states.
- Travel costs are reimbursed.
- This is a paid internship.
