About the role#
As a Truck Driver Student, you will participate in a training program to earn your CDL-A. This position provides on-the-job experience as an LTL Driver while you learn to operate heavy equipment and manage freight operations. You will work under supervision to ensure all tasks meet safety and regulatory standards.
What you'll do#
- Attend training sessions to obtain a CDL-A.
- Perform vehicle inspections under supervision following FMCSR guidelines.
- Maintain accurate records according to DOT and company policies.
- Load and unload freight using a forklift.
- Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
- Adhere to company safety policies and maintain contact with service center personnel.
- Operate a tractor-trailer combination under supervision for up to 11 consecutive hours.
- Lift freight and objects weighing 50 lbs. frequently, and occasionally over 75 lbs.
- Move and position a converter dolly with an average pull force of 128 lbs.
- Work in various weather conditions and navigate uneven or slippery surfaces.
What you'll need#
- Be at least 21 years of age.
- Hold a valid state-issued driver's license for at least 12 months.
- Possess 1 year of related experience.
- Attain a CDL-A permit by the first day of class.
- Obtain double/triple trailers, tanker, and HAZMAT endorsements within 90 days.
- Initiate a TSA fingerprint-based background check by the second week of class.
- Pass a DOT drug test and a company-paid DOT physical.
- Maintain a clean driving record and history.
- No positive drug tests or refusals in the last 3 years.
- Ability to read and speak English to communicate with the public and complete reports.
- Availability for a variety of shifts including days, evenings, nights, and weekends.
- Forklift experience and a Class B CDL are preferred.
