About the role#
As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will contribute to the Mechanical Engineering Competency at Allegion. This role offers an opportunity to gain experience in the design, development, and technical analysis of components and assemblies. You will work on projects of moderate scope, either independently or as part of a team, to support new product requirements and current product improvements.
What you'll do#
- Generate, evaluate, and develop design concepts for components and assemblies.
- Create 3D models and participate in peer reviews on design.
- Collaborate with other engineers to ensure correct processes, tooling, and equipment are available for manufacturing.
- Gain exposure to electronic locking systems, access control solutions, and the differences between residential and commercial security.
- Utilize engineering tools such as Creo, MS Project, FMEA, Root Cause Analysis, GD&T, Tolerance Stack Analysis, and DFM/DFA.
- Participate in daily and regular team meetings.
- Perform mechanical testing techniques.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a degree in Mechanical Engineering, System Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a relevant discipline.
- Demonstrated leadership ability and initiative through school projects, clubs, or work experience.
- Basic understanding of electronics.
- Ability to work effectively in both team and individual settings.
- Resilience and the ability to adapt quickly to new tasks.
- Effective time management, listening, and creative problem-solving skills.
- A strong desire to learn and develop professional skills.
