About the role#
As a student in the Archives, you will work with the Archives team to support the preservation and accessibility of historical records. You will assist with physical and digital archival workflows while helping to maintain the integrity and quality of the collection. This role reports to the Assistant Director of IM Lifecycle and Collaboration and works under the direction of the Bank Archivist.
What you'll do#
- Assist with accessing, retrieving, and storing records at both on-site and off-site locations.
- Support data quality improvements for archival accession records, including database entry and reconciling inaccurate information.
- Apply archival descriptions based on the Rules of Archival Description (RAD).
- Process the photographic collection by assigning and maintaining numbering systems.
- Participate in service improvement discussions related to the digital transformation of the archives.
- Respond to internal client inquiries and provide access to historical records.
- Maintain and improve physical storage areas to ensure they remain clean and compliant with preservation practices.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate degree or diploma program in library and information studies, archival studies, information management, history, or a related field.
- Knowledge of archival principles and practices, specifically regarding arrangement and description.
- Experience with data entry, quality control, and metadata accuracy.
- Ability to provide client service in a research or archival environment.
- Strong attention to detail and an interest in organizing information.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a small team.
Location & details#
- Location: Ottawa, Ontario.
- Term: Winter 2026.
- Work Modality: Hybrid (minimum 12 days per month on-site).
- Status: Full-time (37.5 hours per week).
- Compensation: $22.84 per hour.
- Requirements: Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and eligible to obtain Reliability security clearance.
