About the role#
This Pharmacist Intern position offers a remote opportunity to support pharmacy operations within Banner Health. You will work under the supervision of a pharmacist to assist with medication management, clinical outreach, and inventory tasks. This role requires a commitment of 8 hours per week, with shifts scheduled between 7:30 AM and 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
What you'll do#
- Support CMS pharmacy stars measures and perform medication adherence outreach calls.
- Process physician orders by entering information into the medication management system.
- Assist in preparing compounded and intravenous medications, including total parenteral nutrition and chemotherapeutic agents.
- Select and prepare medications under direct supervision and investigate missing medication requests.
- Manage inventory by restocking medications, identifying items for reorder, and processing patient charges or credits.
- Maintain automated dispensing technology, including troubleshooting malfunctions, adding users, and investigating discrepancies.
- Act as a liaison between customers and the pharmacist, handling inquiries and telephone communications.
- Perform quality control activities, such as monthly nursing unit checks and documenting equipment maintenance, refrigerator temperatures, and hood cleaning.
- Formulate potential recommendations for physicians regarding medication therapy and safety.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited school of Pharmacy.
- An active and unrestricted pharmacy intern license in the state of practice.
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications, medication management software, and automated dispensing systems.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- For Arizona incumbents, the ability to provide an AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card at hire.
- For Banner Behavioral Health Hospital employees, an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and a signed Arizona Criminal History Affidavit.
- Previous pharmacy technician experience or additional training in specialty areas is preferred.
