About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern at Chesapeake Regional Healthcare, you will work under the direct supervision of a pharmacist to provide pharmaceutical services and support patient care. This role focuses on developing entry-level pharmacist competencies while assisting with core pharmacy operations. You will engage in both inpatient and outpatient settings to gain practical experience in a hospital environment.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the provision of medications and other pharmaceutical services.
- Monitor drug therapies and identify or resolve medication therapy problems, drug interactions, and gaps in care.
- Counsel patients, families, and caregivers on medication use.
- Advise medical providers and nursing staff regarding drug therapy.
- Participate in the hospital medication use system, including order receipt and evaluation.
- Triage patient-care priorities during periods of high activity.
- Assist with inventory management to ensure adequate stock levels.
- Provide education to healthcare staff and contribute to medication-use policies.
- Support patient self-care by helping with the selection of over-the-counter medications and dietary supplements.
- Attend required hospital meetings, orientations, and in-services.
- Follow all department policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
- Work effectively as part of an inter-professional team.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Completion of at least 2 years of college coursework.
- Active enrollment in or graduation from an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy.
- Current registration as a Pharmacy Intern with the respective Board of Pharmacy.
