About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will bridge the gap between your pharmacy school education and real-world practice. You will complete a comprehensive training roadmap to gain a deep understanding of store, district, and regional operations. This role focuses on preparing you for future responsibilities as a pharmacist by immersing you in daily pharmacy operations and patient care.
What you'll do#
- Support pharmacy teams to ensure operations run smoothly and prescriptions are filled safely, accurately, and promptly.
- Apply pharmacy school learning to practice while following standard operating procedures.
- Provide caring service to patients, including creating personalized interactions and solving patient problems.
- Assist with clinical services, including offering immunizations, point-of-care testing, and educating patients on vaccines.
- Field medical questions and offer counseling under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Handle telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and clarify medication details.
- Complete inventory tasks such as cycle counts, returns, and processing deliveries.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to pharmacy team members as you gain experience.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws regarding pharmacy practice and patient privacy.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or acceptance to an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining one.
- At least 1 year of work experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
- Ability to become immunization certified.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong focus and the ability to pivot quickly between tasks.
- Mathematical skills to calculate dosages, day supplies, and medication quantities.
- Ability to work in your home store and travel to other locations across the market.
- Ability to complete all required training within the designated timeframe.
Location & details#
- Location: Pekin, Illinois.
- This is an on-site, part-time position with a rolling term.
- The pay range for this role is $20.50 - $24.25 per hour.
