About the role#
The Texas Courage Fellowship is a program for young leaders working to reduce gun violence. Fellows learn advocacy and organizing skills while working with GIFFORDS staff. The program runs through the winter and summer of 2027 and includes a mix of in-person and virtual training sessions. This is a paid position for individuals aged 18 to 24.
What you'll do#
- Attend three in-person trainings and four virtual training sessions.
- Develop and implement a community engagement project, such as a town hall, voter registration drive, or press conference.
- Meet with legislators to discuss gun violence prevention.
- Network with other young activists and past fellows.
- Represent GIFFORDS at community, legislative, and media events.
- Participate in the Ambassador Program by mentoring future fellows and contributing to organizational communications.
What you'll need#
- You must be between 18 and 24 years old.
- Strong ties to Texas with plans to remain in the state.
- Demonstrated interest in politics, community organizing, activism, or volunteerism.
- Ability to travel within the state for all required in-person trainings.
- Willingness to attend the entirety of all scheduled training sessions.
- Academic interests in fields such as Political Science, Sociology, Communications, Public Health, History, or International Relations are relevant but not required.

About GIFFORDS
GIFFORDS is a nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC. Founded in 2013, the group focuses on public policy related to gun violence prevention. It operates the GIFFORDS Law Center to research and draft safety legislation. The organization also runs a political action committee to support elected officials. It employs approximately 127 people.
