About the role#
As an Aggregate Operations Intern, you will gain practical experience in the day-to-day management of an aggregate facility. You will work alongside the Aggregate Plant Leader and General Foreman to understand how production, maintenance, quality control, and shipping come together. This role focuses on hands-on learning, providing you with exposure to the technical and supervisory aspects of the construction industry.
What you'll do#
- Learn aggregate production processes including extraction, crushing, screening, and material handling.
- Observe plant and mobile equipment usage to support efficient production.
- Assist with facility inspections and identify potential safety, operational, or maintenance concerns.
- Develop an understanding of safety practices and MSHA requirements.
- Gain exposure to environmental regulations and compliance in pit operations.
- Learn about product quality, material gradations, and inventory management.
- Assist with preventive maintenance activities and plant repairs.
- Learn shipping, loadout, and scale house processes.
- Maintain and review production and operational data.
- Observe plant leadership in planning work, delegating tasks, and coordinating resources.
- Participate in safety meetings and operational training.
What you'll need#
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Current enrollment in or recent completion of a program in Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Mining, Construction Management, Industrial Technology, Geology, or Environmental Studies.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- A genuine interest in learning about aggregate operations, heavy equipment, and construction materials.
- Willingness to learn through both hands-on experience and observation.
- Ability to work safely in an active plant environment, including wearing personal protective equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work on uneven terrain in various weather conditions.
