About the role#
This internship offers exposure to the full lifecycle of heavy civil construction projects. You will work alongside estimators, surveyors, project engineers, and superintendents to learn the practical side of construction operations. This is a full-time, paid, hourly position that provides hands-on experience in preconstruction, project management, and field operations.
What you'll do#
- Assist with project documentation, including reports, bid packages, change orders, and progress payments.
- Review engineering drawings, plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Use estimating software to perform quantity takeoffs and research material pricing.
- Support project scheduling and maintain project files.
- Participate in project meetings and communicate with stakeholders.
- Observe field operations and assist with contract administration.
- Support survey crews with construction layout, grade verification, and field measurements.
- Collect and organize survey data while gaining experience with GPS technology.
- Shadow management personnel to learn about project planning and execution.
- Operate company vehicles safely and maintain equipment.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing an Associate or Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering Technology, Surveying Technology, or a related field.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Interest in heavy highway, site development, and civil construction.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Valid driver license with an acceptable driving record.
