About the role#
As a Safety Intern at Granite Construction, you will support the administration of accident prevention programs and ensure work complies with safety laws and company policy. This position is based in Des Plaines, Illinois, and involves frequent travel. It is a full-time, paid, on-site role with a rolling term.
What you'll do#
- Promote compliance with company safety programs and local accident prevention efforts.
- Develop and implement safety programs to meet or exceed company standards.
- Perform and document jobsite inspections and audits, focusing on hazard recognition and correcting unsafe behaviors.
- Prepare and lead safety meetings and training programs.
- Participate in regulatory agency inspections and investigations.
- Review job hazard analysis for major phases of work.
- Manage records for third-party, asset loss, and workers compensation claims.
- Coordinate with the corporate insurance department to ensure timely claim resolution.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program, specifically in Safety or Occupational Health.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to teach, mentor, and lead others.
- Capacity to work in a high production environment and meet deadlines under pressure.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Availability and willingness to travel frequently.
- Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are preferred.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including climbing stairs and ladders, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
