    About the role#

    Griffon Aerospace is looking for Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Interns to join our team in Madison, Alabama. This role provides hands-on experience with the structural design, fabrication, testing, and integration of unmanned aerial vehicles. You will work alongside experienced engineers on real-world defense projects. This is a paid, on-site internship with flexible scheduling to accommodate your academic commitments.

    What you'll do#

    • Create and maintain 3D CAD models, technical drawings, and documentation.
    • Assist with structural design, analysis, and trade studies under the guidance of senior staff.
    • Participate in the hands-on building of UAV airframes and components.
    • Support fabrication tasks, including 3D printing, composite layups, and assembly.
    • Perform mechanical testing, system validation, and fit checks.
    • Collaborate with engineers and technicians during design reviews and development projects.
    • Support manufacturing process improvements and prepare technical reports.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in an accredited Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
    • A solid understanding of engineering fundamentals such as statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, and thermodynamics.
    • Experience with 3D CAD software like SolidWorks, CATIA, or NX.
    • Practical experience with fabrication, prototyping, or manufacturing processes.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • You must be a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR regulations to access ITAR and CUI data.
    • Preferred skills include experience with composite materials, CNC machining, 3D printing, and FEA tools such as ANSYS or Nastran.
    • Familiarity with GD&T and previous participation in robotics or UAV projects is a plus.

    • Location: Madison, Alabama.
    • Modality: On-site.
    • Schedule: Flexible hours available, including part-time during the semester and full-time options during breaks.
    • Requirements: Ability to work at a desk or shop floor and lift up to 50 lbs.
