About the role#
As a Mechanical Design Intern, you will apply engineering drafting principles to perform basic design work. You will work under the guidance of engineers and designers to develop models and drawings while coordinating with team members to exchange project information. This is a full-time, paid summer internship based in Lenexa, Kansas.
What you'll do#
- Develop 3D models using sketches and design skills.
- Create and maintain plan, diagram, and detail drawings.
- Check 3D models for interferences and constructability.
- Update as-builts using RFIs, ECNs, and red-marked drawings.
- Create check packages and resolve comments on drawings.
- Learn and apply company design standards and industry codes.
- Conduct personal quality checks for consistency, safety, and maintenance requirements.
- Report progress and issues to the Lead Designer.
- Participate in project meetings and seek feedback to improve your skills.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of an Associate or Bachelor degree in Computer Aided Drafting and Design or a related field.
- Entry to intermediate skills in AutoCAD.
- Ability to use computer-aided drafting software such as MicroStation, NavisWorks, or SmartPlant.
- Working knowledge of spreadsheets, databases, and computer operating systems.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment and support project goals.
- Capability to follow both routine and detailed instructions.
