About the role#
The Construction Engineer and Inspection Intern will join our team for a 12-week program starting in May 2027. You will support infrastructure projects involving roads, bridges, and utilities. This role offers an opportunity to apply your academic knowledge to real-world construction scenarios while working under the guidance of experienced professionals.
What you'll do#
- Monitor and test client and contractor work to ensure it meets plans and specifications.
- Verify that traffic and erosion control devices, quality assurance, and safety standards are met.
- Perform construction observation and conduct field tests for concrete, asphalt, and earthworks.
- Ensure all materials and procedures comply with the latest DOT standards.
- Record daily construction inspection notes for document management.
- Assist engineers with the development of spreadsheet tools.
- Manage project documentation by copying and scanning drawings.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited Civil Engineering or related degree program, preferably as a Junior or Senior.
- High School Diploma.
- Strong computer skills, including the MS Office suite.
- Ability to perform above-average math calculations.
- A current driver’s license with a safe 3-year driving record.
- US Citizenship or Green Card status.
- Organization, planning, and research skills.
- A 3.5 GPA or better is desired.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and prior internship experience are preferred.
- Ability to work well individually and within a team.
Location & details#
- Location: Virginia Beach, Virginia.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Modality: This is a full-time, on-site position. You will report to the office 5 days a week.
- Physical requirements: The role requires navigating construction sites, which may involve walking, standing, bending, climbing, and lifting up to 80 pounds. You may work in various environmental conditions, including noisy, hot, or cold settings, and may occasionally work nights or weekends.
