About the role#
The Musco Test Engineering Team is hiring a Material Engineer Intern for the summer of 2027. This position is based in Oskaloosa, Iowa, and requires on-site work. You will work with our laboratory tools to analyze materials and support engineering projects.
What you'll do#
- Perform materials analysis and provide technical support for metallic, polymeric, electronic, and composite materials.
- Evaluate purchased parts, experimental components, field returns, and manufacturing processes.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Product Support, Manufacturing, and Procurement teams to provide guidance.
- Contribute to solder reliability and experimental design for LED fixtures and drivers.
- Investigate failed components and microstructures to improve product performance.
- Support root cause analyses and corrective actions for materials issues.
- Gain experience with lab safety, sample preparation, cross sectioning saws, automatic polishers, and Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM).
- Write reports and communicate findings to interdisciplinary teams.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor degree program for Chemical Engineering, Material Science Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing.
- Ability to work as a self-starter and solve problems collaboratively.
- Proficiency in MS Office products such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with Project software and familiarity with Musco solutions are considered a plus.
