About the role#
The National Restaurant Association is hiring an intern for our Public Affairs team. This paid role offers a view into government relations, public policy, and grassroots efforts. You will work on legislative initiatives, coordinate with member companies, and attend events in Washington, D.C. This position lasts for approximately twelve weeks.
What you'll do#
- Work with the Public Affairs team to meet organizational goals.
- Conduct research as assigned.
- Provide logistical support for the department.
- Respond to inquiries from members and State Restaurant Associations.
- Assist with the preparation of department newsletters.
- Track legislative developments.
- Support internal team members and departments.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in or recent graduation from an academic program in Political Science, Business, Communications, Government Affairs, or Public Policy.
- Prior professional experience in a related field.
- Knowledge of government, politics, and public policy.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and set priorities effectively.
- Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with internal and external stakeholders.
- Previous experience or knowledge of the restaurant industry is a plus.
Location & details#
- This role is based in Washington, D.C.
- The schedule is hybrid, with required onsite work Monday through Wednesday and remote flexibility on Thursday and Friday.
- Interns must be available to work 20 to 40 hours per week.
