About the role#
The Credit Risk Strategy & Analysis team develops analytical solutions to support lending portfolios, manage credit risk, and improve member service. As a Data Scientist Summer Associate, you will join a team of analysts and modelers to work on projects involving machine learning, model building, dashboarding, and process automation. This 12-week internship runs from May 2027 through August 2027.
What you'll do#
- Analyze large data sets using Python, R, Scala, and Spark.
- Build and manage big data models to solve business problems.
- Evaluate model design and performance through validation and testing.
- Develop strategies for underwriting, pricing, and portfolio monitoring.
- Transform raw data into formats suitable for decision-making.
- Create visualizations and dashboards to monitor trends.
- Generate reports to support business planning and strategy.
- Lead initiatives to streamline or automate existing processes.
- Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to deliver analytical solutions.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of an undergraduate or graduate degree in Data Science, Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Engineering.
- Graduation date of December 2027 or later.
- Coding experience with Python, R, Scala, Spark, and SQL.
- Ability to translate complex business problems into analytical solutions.
- Skills in data storytelling and visual communication.
- Experience manipulating raw data to create effective dashboards.
- Familiarity with GitHub for code collaboration and documentation.
- Familiarity with Databricks and AI agents like Copilot.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
