About the role#
The Legal Department at Navy Federal Credit Union provides legal, compliance, operational, and regulatory expertise to protect the credit union and support informed decision-making. This 12-week internship offers exposure to the Office of General Counsel, Compliance, Regulatory Liaison Office, and Planning and Optimization divisions. You will work on projects that support our strategic goals and gain insight into governance and executive decision-making.
What you'll do#
- Support the planning, coordination, and execution of departmental projects and strategic initiatives.
- Conduct research and analysis to support business decisions and legal department objectives.
- Evaluate existing processes and recommend opportunities to improve efficiency and service delivery.
- Prepare executive summaries, briefing materials, and presentations for leadership.
- Monitor project timelines and milestones while providing status updates to stakeholders.
- Partner with team members across multiple legal divisions to accomplish assigned work.
- Draft and edit internal communications to ensure clear and consistent messaging.
- Observe leadership meetings to develop an understanding of strategic planning and governance.
- Maintain project documentation, reference materials, and departmental records.
- Adhere to Navy Federal policies and regulations, including those pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Communications, Organizational Development, Business Administration, Project Management, or a related field.
- Anticipated graduation date of December 2027 or later.
- Familiarity with project and program management methodologies.
- Experience participating in cross-functional or multi-dimensional teams.
- Ability to compile, organize, and present information clearly.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong initiative and the ability to exercise good judgment.
- A desire to develop a career in legal, compliance, or regulatory environments.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship based on-site in Vienna, Virginia.
- The program runs for 12 weeks, from May 2027 through August 2027.
- Standard working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM ET.
