    About the role#

    The Studio Museum in Harlem is accepting applications for the Robert Rauschenberg Curatorial Fellowship. This 12-month, full-time position provides a comprehensive introduction to curatorial work for a professional committed to the museum field and artists of African descent. You will work under the direction of the Associate Curator to support exhibition projects, research, and administrative coordination. The fellow will join a cohort of peers and collaborate with internal departments and external partners.

    What you'll do#

    • Assist the Associate Curator with research and the production of didactic texts for exhibition publications.
    • Develop exhibition schedules and support the creation of exhibition proposals.
    • Coordinate studio visits and conduct artist research.
    • Provide organizational and project support for the Museum collections and exhibitions.
    • Write and research content for Studio magazine and the Museum website.
    • Assist with special projects and coordinate activities across departments, including Communications and Learning and Engagement.

    What you'll need#

    • A Bachelor’s degree in art history, museum studies, or an adjacent field from an accredited college.
    • A strong background in mid-twentieth century and contemporary art by artists of African descent.
    • Advanced skills with Microsoft 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud.
    • Familiarity with The Museum System (TMS/TMS Collections) and NetX.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with the flexibility to manage shifting priorities and meet deadlines.
    • Experience working in a museum or cultural organization is preferred.

    Location & details#

    • This position is based on-site in New York, New York.
    • The role is full-time, based on a 35-hour work week.
    • Compensation is $50,000 annually.
    • The fellowship includes a benefits package and $2,500 for travel expenses related to an approved research trip.
