About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience with the digitization of archival cultural material. You will gain insight into the archives and records management profession while working directly with the Associate Records Manager. The role focuses on preparing materials for digital access and supporting the daily operations of the SFMOMA Archives.
What you'll do#
- Inventory, lightly process, and perform holdings maintenance for archival materials in preparation for digitization.
- Complete scan requests for both internal and external research needs.
- Upload digitized assets to the digital asset management system.
- Develop and improve procedures for digitization standards and practices.
- Participate in ongoing SFMOMA Archives inventory projects.
- Complete a final metrics report of your digitization work.
What you'll need#
- You must be a current student or recent graduate of a Masters-level program in library science, records management, museum studies, or a related field.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Genuine interest in archives and records management within a museum setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft 365, and task-management tools such as Asana or Airtable.
- Experience handling fragile objects, specifically paper and audiovisual materials.
Location & details#
- This internship takes place during the Fall 2026 term.
- The role is fully on-site in San Francisco, California.
- Work is split between the museum location on Third Street and the Collection Center in South San Francisco, depending on your assigned projects.
- This is an unpaid internship. You must provide proof of eligibility to receive school credit.
