About the role#
The SFMOMA Archives and Records Management department is looking for an intern to assist with a project focused on centralizing artwork-related documentation. You will work one-on-one with an Archivist and Records Manager to manage digital records for objects in the museum collection. This role provides an opportunity to learn about information science and archival workflows in a museum setting.
What you'll do#
- Survey and inventory incoming born-digital documents.
- Upload and describe documents within the museum digital asset management system.
- Ensure that incoming information about objects is accurately reflected in the collection management system.
- Compile digital object files and produce inventories or file maps.
- Draft or update standards for organizing and describing digital records.
What you'll need#
- You must be a current student or recent graduate of a Masters-level program in library science, records management, museum studies, or a related field.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- An interest in archives and records management within a museum environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint, and task-management tools like Asana or Airtable.
- Experience handling fragile objects, specifically paper and audiovisual materials.
Location & details#
- Term: Fall 2026.
- Commitment: At least 3 hours per week.
- Modality: Fully on-site.
- Location: Work is divided between the museum location at 151 3rd Street in San Francisco and the Collection Center in South San Francisco.
- Note: This is an unpaid internship. Applicants must provide proof of eligibility to receive school credit.
