About the role#
The Creative Team at the Department of Industrial Relations is looking for a Social Media/Marketing Student Assistant. This role supports the development of visual content and helps manage the department's digital presence. You will work directly with Creative Services staff to produce materials that align with our mission. This is a part-time, temporary, and non-benefited position.
What you'll do#
- Create social media graphics, promotional materials, and digital content.
- Draft captions and supporting copy for social media posts.
- Film and edit short-form video content.
- Repurpose existing department materials into engaging social media posts.
- Maintain monthly content calendars and track deadlines.
- Use tools like Sprout Social to schedule and publish approved content.
- Coordinate with staff to gather necessary assets for projects.
- Organize and maintain the department's digital content library.
- Research current trends, hashtags, and relevant social media topics.
- Monitor channels for comments and mentions.
- Track performance metrics like reach, engagement, and video views.
- Participate in brainstorming sessions for upcoming campaigns.
- Apply accessibility best practices to all digital content.
- Provide social media coverage for department events and outreach activities.
What you'll need#
- Proof of enrollment in a college or university program in Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
- Graduate students must be registered as such for graduate roles.
- A portfolio or samples of your previous work is required.
- Experience creating content for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and X.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, including Adobe Express.
- Knowledge of social media best practices and management tools like Sprout.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite.
Location & details#
- Location: Sacramento, California.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Flexible hours between 8 AM and 5 PM, Monday through Friday.
- Workload: Up to 24 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours during breaks.
- Compensation: $18.27 to $33.52 per hour.
