You will work directly with the team responsible for the system and present your work at the end of the summer. Your code will run directly on sensors, networks, and aircraft hardware. You will be expected to ask questions, test your assumptions, and document your work.

    What you'll do#

    • Bring up peripherals and interfaces such as SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet, or other serial and network protocols.
    • Write drivers, services, diagnostics, simulation components, or hardware-abstraction layers.
    • Use debuggers, logs, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG tools to troubleshoot.
    • Contribute to software-in-the-loop or hardware-in-the-loop testing and verification.

    What you'll need#

    • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
    • Strong programming fundamentals and experience in C or C++.
    • Coursework or project experience with embedded systems, operating systems, computer architecture, or real-time software.
    • Experience with a project where software interacted with hardware and the ability to explain your technical contributions and debugging process.
    • Familiarity with RTOS, Linux, device drivers, networking, robotics, controls, or Python-based test automation is a plus.

    Location & details#

    • Location: California, United States (On-site).
    • Term: Summer 2027.
    • Employment: Full-time, paid internship.
    • Note: To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicants must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).
