About the role#
As an AI & Robotics Intern, you will join Project NOVA to build intelligent applications for the energy industry. You will work alongside senior leadership to develop scalable solutions that improve operations. This role involves direct work with physical robots and requires comfort operating in a high-voltage industrial test lab under supervised safety protocols.
What you'll do#
- Develop and test robot software components, such as ROS 2 nodes, for perception, navigation, and data logging.
- Support mapping, localization (SLAM), and autonomous navigation testing.
- Build and improve computer vision models for object detection and scene understanding.
- Perform data collection, annotation, training, and evaluation for AI models.
- Deploy and optimize models for real-time inference on edge hardware.
- Run experiments in simulation and validate results on physical robots.
- Document methods, configurations, and results for the team.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Proficiency in C++ and Python, with the ability to write clean, maintainable code.
- Experience with Linux, Git, and ROS 2.
- Familiarity with deep learning frameworks like PyTorch and computer vision models, including object detection and segmentation.
- Knowledge of SLAM, navigation stacks like Nav2, or sensor fusion with LiDAR and depth cameras.
- Experience with robotics simulation tools like Gazebo or Isaac Sim.
- Familiarity with edge AI hardware such as NVIDIA Jetson and inference optimization techniques like TensorRT or quantization.
- A GitHub profile submitted with your resume.
- Knowledge of vision-language-action (VLA) models is considered a plus.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid, on-site internship.
- The role is based in Scarborough, Ontario, and Pickering, Ontario.
