About the role#
The California Health and Human Services Agency is hiring two student assistants to support the Office of Administrative Services. You will also assist with administrative functions for the Office of Program and Fiscal Affairs, the Office of Legislative Affairs, and the Office of External Affairs. This is a part-time, temporary position requiring a high degree of initiative and professional judgment.
What you'll do#
- Screen incoming calls, greet visitors, and respond to basic inquiries.
- Manage appointment requests, schedule meetings, and process travel arrangements.
- Review incoming correspondence and track assignment status in the Agency database.
- Check draft correspondence for adherence to protocols and rules.
- Enter data, monitor assignments from the Governor’s Office, and create weekly status reports.
- Assist senior staff with special projects and coordinate details with department staff.
- Set up conference rooms and virtual meeting technology including Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
- Provide courier services and perform other support duties as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a college student in a field such as Business Administration, Communications, English, Political Science, Health Administration, Public Health, Psychology, or Sociology.
- Ability to read and write English and perform simple arithmetic.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Professionalism, independence, and a desire to learn.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and audiovisual conference equipment.
Location & details#
- Location: Sacramento, California.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, between 8 AM and 5 PM. You may work up to 24 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during academic breaks.
- Compensation: $17.00 to $20.00 per hour.
