About the role#
The ACLU of the District of Columbia is seeking second-year law students for full-time internships during the summer of 2027. This role provides exposure to the development and litigation of impact cases focused on civil rights and liberties. Interns work directly with the legal department on matters affecting District residents and challenges to federal government policies.
What you'll do#
- Conduct legal research for current and potential cases.
- Draft memoranda, pleadings, motions, and discovery requests.
- Interview potential clients and investigate case facts.
- Participate in legal strategy sessions, court proceedings, depositions, and client meetings.
What you'll need#
- Current status as a second-year law student.
- Excellent legal research and writing skills.
- Capacity for thoughtful and perceptive legal analysis.
- Empathy and interpersonal skills to connect with clients and community members.
- Ability to take ownership of projects and work collaboratively.
Location & details#
- This internship is based in the District of Columbia and follows a hybrid work model.
- The position is unpaid, though financial stipends may be available for candidates not receiving outside funding to assist with expenses.
- Majors considered include Political Science, International Relations, History, Philosophy, and Criminal Justice.
