    About the role#

    The ACLU of Utah is hiring a legal extern for the fall 2026 semester. You will work with our legal team on strategic litigation and public advocacy projects. This is a paid, part-time position requiring 8-10 hours per week from mid-September through December 4, 2026. You may be eligible to receive academic or pro bono credit through your law school.

    What you'll do#

    • Draft legal memoranda, affidavits, and briefs.
    • Conduct legal and policy research.
    • Review and sort document production and litigation materials.
    • Research and create Know Your Rights materials for public education.
    • Draft and submit public records requests under state and federal statutes.

    What you'll need#

    • Completion of at least one year of law school.
    • Strong writing, research, and communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and in small teams.
    • A commitment to civil liberties, civil rights, and social justice.
    • Ability to handle multiple projects at once and convey legal information to non-attorney audiences.

    Location & details#

    • This is a hybrid position based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Applicants must reside in Utah.
    • Compensation is $17.50 per hour.
