About the role#
The ThinkBIG internship is a two-year program designed for students to earn an Associate in Applied Sciences while gaining hands-on experience in the machinery industry. You will rotate between classroom instruction at Illinois Central College and practical work at an Altorfer branch. This paid position offers a path to learn a skilled trade in a high-demand field.
What you'll do#
- Complete an eight-week rotation at Illinois Central College followed by an eight-week internship at an Altorfer branch.
- Study technical topics including Fundamentals of Hydraulics, Caterpillar Engine Fuel Systems, and Fundamentals of Electrical Systems.
- Gain experience in Diagnostic Testing and Undercarriage/Final Drives.
- Work in a shop or warehouse environment where you may climb on equipment or perform physical tasks.
What you'll need#
- A high school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver license.
- The ability to lift 75 to 100 pounds and perform physical tasks like bending or climbing.
- Basic computer proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- A commitment to maintaining an above average grade point.
- Strong time management, planning, and organizational skills.
- A self-starter attitude with a focus on teamwork and attention to detail.
Location & details#
- Location: East Peoria, Illinois.
- Term: Fall 2027.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 6:30 am to 3:00 pm.
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $18.50 per hour.
- Benefits: Includes tuition reimbursement, tool and safety equipment reimbursement, 401(k), and up to 40 hours of paid time off per calendar year.
