About the role#
The Marriage & Family Therapist - Counseling Intern provides support to students, faculty, and staff at Arizona Christian University. This is an on-site, unpaid volunteer position located in Glendale, Arizona. You will work under the clinical supervision of the Director of Counseling Services to provide direct care while fulfilling your program requirements.
What you'll do#
- Provide counseling to individuals, couples, families, and groups.
- Lead workshops and support groups focused on emotional and behavioral health.
- Conduct initial intakes and assessments, including suicide risk screening.
- Maintain client files in compliance with state law and university procedures.
- Document sessions with progress notes within 24 hours.
- Create and review treatment plans for clients.
- Participate in weekly individual and group supervision sessions.
- Manage administrative tasks such as scheduling, responding to emails, and organizing materials.
- Offer spiritual guidance and prayer to the campus community.
What you'll need#
- Completion of all prerequisite coursework from an accredited master’s or doctoral program in psychology or a related behavioral health field.
- Active Christian faith and a commitment to the university’s faith statement and mission.
- Ability to articulate and apply a biblical, Christian approach to counseling.
- Strong clinical skills in assessment and therapeutic alliance building.
- Proficiency in managing documentation and meeting administrative deadlines.

- This role is based on-site in Glendale, Arizona.
- The position is unpaid and operates on a rolling basis.
