About the role#
Trinity Health is hiring Nurse Externs for our Grand Rapids campus. This role is open to nursing students who want to gain hands-on experience in a hospital setting. You will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse to support patient care and clinical operations.
What you'll do#
- Respond to patient call lights and perform regular rounding.
- Assist Registered Nurses by observing patient conditions and reporting changes in medical or emotional status.
- Document patient interventions and responses accurately and in real time.
- Support the health care team during emergency situations.
- Perform basic patient care activities such as blood glucose monitoring, phlebotomy, dressing changes, and assisting with postmortem care.
- Help with the initiation of peripheral IV lines and urinary catheterization.
- Interact with patients and their families to ensure consistent care.
- Maintain patient safety protocols throughout your shift.
What you'll need#
- A High School diploma.
- Current enrollment in an accredited nursing school with good standing.
- Completion of at least two clinical semesters of nursing school.
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification.
- Preference is given to candidates with experience as an EMT, Paramedic, Nurse aide, or CENA, as well as those with acute care experience.
