About the role#
The OR RN Internship is a full-time, paid 26-week program starting in January 2027. It trains nurses in the perioperative role through a mix of classroom learning and clinical experience. You will work across various surgical specialties and campuses to build your skills. Interns receive support to complete the AORN Perioperative 101 core curriculum. Successful completion of the program and departmental needs determine your placement in a full-time position at a surgical campus.
What you'll do#
- Manage the care of operative patients and perform ongoing patient assessments.
- Create and maintain a safe, controlled environment, including monitoring temperature and traffic flow.
- Handle instruments, supplies, and equipment needed for surgical procedures.
- Assist physicians with surgical tasks like patient positioning, homeostasis, suturing, and wound exposure.
- Perform circulating functions, such as monitoring and recording patient conditions.
- Perform scrub functions, including the selection and handling of instruments.
- Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary team to resolve patient needs.
- Inspect sterile items for integrity and verify chemical indicators before use.
- Develop perioperative nursing care plans based on physical, psychosocial, and cultural assessments.
What you'll need#
- Specialized Diploma in Nursing.
- Current PA Registered Nurse license and American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification.
- Less than one year of operating room experience or completion of a perioperative internship.
- Ability to perform basic nursing assessments and functions.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to plan, review, and inspect the work of others.
- Minimum ability to circulate surgical procedures.
- Ability to lift and carry 40-50 pounds and perform physical tasks like bending, squatting, and kneeling.
- Preferred: Ability to scrub surgical procedures and CNOR certification.
